This article describes how to use a free program to automatically post your new blog posts to Twitter and Linkedin (note: The program I describe here will also auto-post to Facebook as well, but I haven’t tested that function).
Here are the steps!
- Create a free twitterfeed.com account
- Open the twitterfeed dashboard and click on Create New Feed
- Under Feed Name, enter the blog post name or something that helps you identify the feed
- Under Blog URL or RSS Feed URL, type in the blog’s URL address. Typically, this will be the main page of your blog
- Click on test rss feed. If the test fails, open another browser window and go to the website and copy the URL of the blog page.
Many times on WordPress sites the URL will be http://mysiteURL.com/feed (obviously “mysiteURL” is your actual domain name) - Open the Advanced Settings section
-Under Update Frequency, select the how often you want to check for new posts
–Under Post Content, select what content you want listed (title and description, title only, or description only)
-Under Post Prefix and Post Suffix, enter what goes before and after the post (if anything). I just add: via @twitterhandle (i.e. via @paulcolabrain), since I like to share other people’s blog posts too
-If you want to be creative, you could add a #hashtag word as a prefix or suffix!
- Click on Continue to Step 2 button
- under Available Services, click on Twitter
-Select your Twitter account, or click on the Authenticate Twitter button to add your Twitter account - Click on Create Service
- For Linkedin, click on Linkedin button under Available Services
- Select your Linkedin account, or click on the Authenticate new LinkedIn Account button
- Click on Create Service
- Click on All Done when you are done!
Now, when you create a new blog post, a tweet and/or a LinkedIn post will be created. Here’s what they’ll look like:
Tweet:
LinkedIn Post:
Now go surprise the bloggers you really love by setting them up in your twitterfeed!
